Nickel 1-Meter Reflector has been in operation on Mount Hamilton since 1979. It is a highly automated, modern telescope which supports several Lick facility instruments for spectroscopy and imaging. Optics ====== The Ritchey-Chretien optics utilize an f/5.3 primary mirror of 38- 1/2 inch diameter, and a secondary providing an f/17 cassegrain focus- -the telescope's sole focus--with an approximate scale of 12.25 arcsec/mm. About 12% of the light is blocked by the secondary. (An f/17.5 chopping secondary may be mounted for IR work. Please specify this in advance on your time request.) Location ======== The observatory location data given here are geodetic latitude and east longitude, based on values from the Astronomical Almanac, 1989. The geocentric site radius was determined using the MERIT 1983 earth figure, equatorial radius = 6378.137 km and flattening of the reference spheroid = 1/298.257. Latitude: 37.343 Degrees Longitude: -121.637 Degrees Earth radius at observatory: 6371.6 Kilometers" END_OBJECT = INSTRUMENT_HOST_INFORMATION OBJECT = INSTRUMENT_HOST_REFERENCE_INFO REFERENCE_KEY_ID = "N/A" END_OBJECT = INSTRUMENT_HOST_REFERENCE_INFO END_OBJECT = INSTRUMENT_HOST END
