These documents describe the PDS data sets for raw and calibrated flight science data from the four instruments. - The /LOCAL_PDS_DATA_DICTIONARY subdirectory contains the local PDS data dictionary listing (PDSDD_DI.FUL) and associated index file (PDSDD_DI.IDX) for the Deep Impact data sets providing flight data and results. These ASCII text dictionary files were used to validate the PDS labels. - The /PROJECT_DATA_MANAGEMENT_PLAN subdirectory contains Project Data Management Plan for the mission. - The /QUATERNION_DESC subdirectory contains the QUATERNION.ASC document describes how to use values in the QUATERNION keyword found in the raw and reduced HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS data labels. /CALIBRATION ------------- - The /CALIBRATION_DOCS subdirectory contains the Deep Impact instrument calibration paper by Klaasen, et. al (2006) that describes the analyses of raw ground and in-flight calibration data, the resulting calibration files, and the calibration pipeline. This document also includes a summary of the types and purposes of in-flight calibrations and describes image orientation. This subdirectory also includes a summary of the calibration processes (CALIBRATION_PIPELINE_SUMM*) and a summary of the inflight calibrations (INFLIGHT_CALIBRATION_SUMM*), both extracted from the instrument calibration document. The limitations of the calibration applied to the HRII spectral images are described in HRII_CALIBRATION_LIMITATION*. Researchers are advised to read this document before using the calibrated IR data. - The /CALIBRATION_SOFTWARE subdirectory contains the IDL procedures used for calibrating Deep Impact HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS flight data from raw counts to physical units of radiance (Watts/cm**2 sr um) and reflectance (I-over-F). The software is supplied strictly as documentation for the pipeline; it is not supported and not intended to be executable. The /DICAL_V5 subdirectory provides the version of the pipeline used to calibrate version 1.0 of the reduced Navigation data sets for the HRIV, MRI, and ITS instruments and version 2.0 of the reduced Science data sets for the HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS instruments. The /DICAL_V4 subdirectory provides the version of the pipeline used to calibrate version 1.0 of reduced Science data sets for the HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS instruments. /FLIGHT_DATA ------------ - The /DAY_OF_YEAR_CALENDAR subdirectory contains a calendar that converts days of year for 2005 to month and day. - The /IMAGE_PARAM_TABLES subdirectory contains image parameter tables for raw and reduced HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS science data sets from cruise and encounter. It also contains image parameter tables for raw and reduced HRIV, MRI, and ITS Navigation data sets from cruise and encounter. The image parameter tables include information about each image in a data set such as the UTC mid-point and duration of an exposure. - The /NAV_DATA subdirectory subdirectory contains documents required for the understanding and interpretation of the raw and reduced navigation (NAV) images data sets. The navigation images report describes how NAV FITS images were created from snipped frames, processed, and reduced. This directory also contains documents that cross-reference raw and reduced FITS file names for the HRIV, MRI, and ITS NAV images data sets. The cross references are required because different file-naming conventions were used for raw and reduced FITS data. - The /SCIENCE_DATA subdirectory contains: - The /ENCOUNTER_LOGS subdirectory contains the hand-recoreded image logs that were maintained during the encounter with comet 9P/Tempel 1. There is one log for each science instrument (HRII, HRIV, MRI, and ITS). During the 28 hours before impact and through encounter, instrument teams were responsible for recording information about the planned observations such as if the images were received on the ground, the quality of the images, or a brief description of what was seen in the images. - The /HRII_ENCOUNTER_POINTING subdirectory contains a table that summarizes the pointing and scan directions for each HRII exposure of 9P/Tempel 1 from June 20 through July 6, 2005. - The /HRII_HRIV_CONTEXT_IMAGES subdirectory contains a HRIV context image for each HRII spectral image acquired during impact and lookback. For each IR frame, the estimated location and size of the IR slit is superimposed on a HRIV image taken near the IR observation. The IMPACT_CONTEXT_IMAGES.ASC and LOOKBACK_CONTEXT_IMAGES.ASC documents provide a description of the context frames and how they were created. IMPACT_CONTEXT_IMAGE_LOG.ASC and LOOKBACK_CONTEXT_IMAGE_LOG.ASC provide a log of the context frames, including geometric parameters displayed on the context images. - The /SPACECRAFT_CLOCK_CORRELATION subdirectory contains the Deep Impact spacecraft clock correlation document. This document summarizes the rationale for the archived correlations between the flyby and impactor spacecraft clocks (SCLKs) and dynamical barycentric time that are encapsulated in the SCLK kernel files archived in the Deep Impact SPICE data set. This document also explains why the clock correlation was changed about 2 seconds, retroactively, shortly after impact with comet 9P/Tempel 1. /PUBLICATIONS ------------ - The /SPACE_SCIENCE_REVIEWS subdirectory contains pre-impact papers about the mission and expected results published by Space Science Reviews in 2005. /THERMAL_VAC_DATA ------------ - The /TV_READTEMP_CODE subdirectory contains an IDL function for reading HRII/HRIV temperature files from TV2 and TV4. - The /TV_REPORTS subdirectory contains daily activity reports for thermal-vacuum tests TV1 through TV4. - The /TV_TEST_PLANS subdirectory contains the procedures written by Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation for performing ground-based thermal-vacuum tests of the Deep Impact instruments.
