Keck I Mid-IR Images of 9P/Tempel 1

This volume contains mid-IR images of comet 9P/Tempel 1 obtained by Fernandez, et al., using the LWS instrument on the Keck I telescope. The images were taken over three consecutive nights in August 2000, about 7.5 months after the comet passed perihelion.

Raw and reduced images, a photometry table, and filter transmission curves are presented.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved. These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

Additional explanatory material about the observations, image extraction and reprocessing has been provided in several separate documents:

• The observing log has been provided as a flat text file (PDS label).
• A text file describing how to convert the six-dimensional FITS files into two-dimensional images (PDS label), and
• A text file describing how to to construct a median flat from the raw images (PDS label) are also included.
• A JPEG figure illustrating the FITS files, acquisition timing and nomenclature is also included PDS label).
• The Keck Telescope and Facility Instrument Guide (August 2002) has also been included (as a PDF file) with the kind permission of Keck Facilities Management (PDS label).

Data Files

The data are divided into three subdirectories:

• Raw Data files
• Reduced Images
• Photometry table

The raw and image subdirectories are further divided by date. All data files are presented as FITS files with detached PDS labels. The photometry table is a flat ASCII table with a detached PDS label.

Index Files

The index/ directory contains the required PDS index into the data files in the data directory. It also contains a checksum file for the archival volume.

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab is a CSV-formatted index table meeting the PDS indexing requirements. (PDS label)
• checksum.tab is flat table of MD5 checksums for each file in the official archival volume except for itself and its PDS label.
