Deep Impact 9P/Tempel Encounter - Calibrated Navigation Images from the Medium-Resolution Visible CCD (MRI) |
Status: Archived
This data set contains version 1.1 of the calibrated images of comet 9P/Tempel 1 acquired by the Deep Impact Medium Resolution Instrument Visible CCD (MRI) during the encounter phase of the mission. These observations were used for optical and autonomous navigation (NAV) of the flyby spacecraft as well as for scienctific investigations. These data were collected 15 May to 4 July 2005.
In this version (1.1) of the data set, the modified Julian date values found in the PDS data labels of version 1.0 were replaced with full Julian dates. This data set supersedes version 1.0.
The entire data set has been broken into seven physical volumes by observation date for downloading. Each volume includes catalog, index, calibration, and support files.
The Deep Impact Documentation volume is available as a separate download file:

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.txt file.
Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.
These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.
The documentation for the Deep Impact mission has been collected into a separate volume. The root of this volume is here. The contents are described in the aareadme file in the root of the documentation volume.
This directory, calib/, contains the files used to calibrate the raw data of comet 9P/Tempel 1. The calibration files are grouped into the following subdirectories and are briefly describe in the calinfo.txt file.
The data are divided by mid-observation date, with subdirectories named by sequential day number under the data/radrev/2005 subdirectory. These reversible, calibrated data (RADREV) have units of radiance, W/[m**2 sr um].
The index/ directory contains the required PDS index into the data files in the data directory, as well as the checksum file.
