Deep Impact Radio Science Data
from the 9P/Tempel 1 Encounter

Status: Archived

This volume contains raw Radio Science data for the Deep Impact flyby spacecraft, collected from June 27 through July 11, 2005, during the encounter with comet 9P/Tempel 1. There was no comet gravity signal detected in the tracking data and hence no gravity science. In addition, there was no evidence in the spacecraft tracking data for dust or gas drag near the time of closest approach.

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.txt file.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Note that the data set catalog file is preliminary and subject to frequent editing until a peer review has been scheduled for these data.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved. These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

Additional explanatory material about this data set have been provided in two separate System Interface Specifications (SIS) documents:
