Keck II ESI Images of 81P/Wild 2 with Astrometry

This volume contains images of 81P/Wild 2 taken using the Echelle Spectrograph and Imager (ESI) instrument at the Keck II telescope, in support of the Stardust mission, with accompanying astrometry. The images were taken over the period 19-21 December 2003.

These data were reviewed in October 2004 and archived in October 2005.

The entire data set is over 3Gb in size. The data have been broken into seperate files to make them marginally easier to download:

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

• The targets subdirectory contains target catalog objects for each TARGET_NAME used in the data file labels. These files generally contain no useful information, but feel free to browse.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents may be provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved.

These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

• glossary.txt contains short descriptions of the important keywords in the FITS headers of the data files (PDS label).
• ads.txt is a file containing citations for the products in this data set, in a format that can be fed directly into the ADS database. The label is in ads.lbl.

Data Files

The images are divided into subdirectories based on the night of observation. In the top level of these directories are the raw images. In the "processed/" subdirectory are processed images. Not all raw images have a processed version present in this data set.

Raw FITS image files are just over 18Mb; processed FITS files are about 14Mb.

The astrometry is provided in a separate file:

• wild2astrom.tab contains a flat ASCII table of the astrometry. The label is in wild2astrom.lbl.

This directory contains an index into the data files included on this volume (in the data/ directory).

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab: a fixed-width, delimited index table; label is index.lbl.
