Scanner apertures were 4 arcsec square. Measurements are typically taken in both apertures alternately with a separate observation of the sky in both apertures at some large distance from the comet. The TV Guider has an effective wavelength of 5000 Angstroms and thus finds the photocenter of the comet at wavelengths appropriate to the C2 emission bands. Because of differential atmospheric refraction, the offsets for other wavelengths are somewhat different. The directions of offset for all wavelengths are in the same quadrant, but the actual direction varies since the differential refraction is vertical, not parallel to the direction of offset. Details of the reduction are given in Cochran et al. 1992, Icarus 98, 151 [COCHRANETAL1992]. A summary of these data is given in Cochran and Barker 1999, Icarus 141, 307 [COCHRAN&BARKER1999].
