McDonald Observatory Images of 19P/Borrelly 1

This volume contains images obtained using the Imaging Grism Instrument at McDonald observatory during the 2001 apparition of 19P/Borrelly 1.

The total volume size is over 800Mb. The data files have been packaged separately for those who have the desire and bandwidth to download them.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved. These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

Several documents are provided with this data set:

• Harris V filter transmission profile, provided as an ASCII table (PDS label
• Mould R filter transmission profile, provided as an ASCII table (PDS label
• Imaging Grism Instrument (IGI) Users Manual, Version 4.0, and ASCII text file (PDS label)

Calibration Files

The filter transmission profiles for the Harris V and Mould R filters are included as title text files in the document/ directory, but are also provided as straight, unlabelled tables in the calib/ subdirectory for ease of use.

Data Files

The data are divided into four subdirectories:

• basic/ contains bias-subtracted, flat-fielded images of the comet.
• standards/ contains the standard star fields used to calibrate the images.
• calibrated/ includes calibrated images from those nights in which standard stars were observed. This is a subset of the basic/ images.
• processing/ contains bias frames and flat-field images used to process the data. These files are named by type, date and filter used, where applicable.

All images are FITS files with separate PDS labels.

Index Files

The index/ directory contains an index into the data in the data/ directory:

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab is a CSV table meeting the PDS indexing requirements. (PDS label)
