ROSETTA ALICE IN COMMISSIONING 1 PHASE,
|
Status: In Lien Resolution
This data set contains version 1.0 of the raw, level 2 data acquired by the Rosetta Orbiter ALICE UV Spectrometer during the first commissioning phase of the Rosetta mission, which occurred 2004-03-05 to 2004-06-06. Observations made during this phase include instrument checkouts, darks, sky background, and comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR). A detailed listing of all Alice observations is given in the observation log file located in the DOCUMENT directory.
The entire data set including catalogs, data, documents, indices, and supporting files can be downloaded here:

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.txt file. The basic hierarchy and links to individual directory and files in the data set are given below. For reference, the file types listing gives a brief description of most file types that are included in a typical PDS data set.
Catalog files contain overview information of the data set, mission, instrument, target, and references as well as parameters used in loading the data set into the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist. Catalog files, although with a .cat extension, are plain ASCII text and can be opened and read with any text editor.
These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.
In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and its reduction, calibration and processing. These documents may be in a variety of file formats, including, but not limited to, .pdf, .doc, .xls, .tab, .asc, .gif, .jpg, .png, and tif. They will be accompanied by a PDS label file.
These files are located in the document/ directory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.
This documentation subdirectory, code/, contains the data processing package, MIKE, used to calibrate the Alice data and is briefly described in the aareadme text file.
The calib/ directory contains the files (briefly described in the calinfo.txt file) used to calibrate the Alice data during this phase of the Rosetta mission. The MIKE calibration routines (provided as documentation in the document/code/ directory) apply various calibrations to engineering-level Alice data to convert the data from units of counts to flux units (photons s**-1 cm**-2). The calibration steps are described in the document headers of the calibration files themselves, the MIKE code, and alice_calibration_desc.asc file.
The data in this data set are raw, CODMAC Level 2 data. The data files are FITS files with PDS labels. (For general information on FITS files, go to our file type description.)
This directory contains indices (as plain ASCII tabular data) for the data in the data/ directory. indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
