Stardust NAVCAM 81P/Wild 2 Data

This volume contains navigational camera (NAVCAM) images from the 81P/Wild 2 encounter phase of the Stardust mission. It covers the period 28 January 2003 through 13 January 2004.

The entire volume is available for downloading in two pieces:

• Catalog, document, index and supporting files (15Mb ZIP file)
• Images (1.4Gb tar file)

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.txt, with the corresponding PDS label in aareadme.lbl. Known errata are presented in the errata.txt file.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved.

These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

• onlabels.txt provides basic information on PDS label structure, with a data label file example.
• mission_plan.pdf contains the Stardust Mission Plan document; label is mission_plan.lbl.
• m_plan_supa.pdf contains Mission Plan Supplement A; label is m_plan_supa.lbl.
• m_plan_supb.pdf contains Mission Plan Supplement B; label is m_plan_supb.lbl.
• nc_des_a.pdf contains a NAVCAM instrument description document; label is nc_des_a.lbl.
• A log of NAVCAM images taken during flight is presented both as an ASCII comma-separated dump of a spreadsheet file, and as PDF:
  • ASCII dump
  • PDF (140K)
  • Label file for both formats

In the calrpt/ subdirectory:

• calibrpt.pdf contains the calibration report and all supporting tables and graphs. The tables have been extracted into separate ASCII comma-delimited dump files in the document/calrpt/ subdirectory.
• calibrpt.lbl contains the PDS label for all the .pdf and .asc files in this subdirectory.

In the scdesc/ subdirectory:

• aerogel.pdf contains the descriptive Aerogel brochure produced by JPL
• scdesc.htm is the first page of an HTML tree providing spacecraft description, including diagrams.
• scdesc.lbl contains the PDS label for all files in this subdirectory.

Data Files

All 700 image files are located in the data/ subdirectory. Labels are attached to the data.

These images may be viewed using the NASAView package available from PDS Central Node.

Index Files

This directory contains an index into the data files included on this volume (in the data/ directory).

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab: a fixed-width, delimited index table; label is index.lbl.
