Stardust Calibrated Images of 81P/Wild 2

This volume contains calibrated images and calibration data obtained by the Navigation Camera (NAVCAM) on board the Stardust spacecraft during the flyby of comet 81P/Wild 2. 206 calibrated images cover a 5-day period from 2003-12-29 to 2004-01-02.

The data set is available in compressed format for downloading: It has been split into two files, the navigation data and the encounter data, along with a third file that contains the catalogs and document information.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved.

These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

• navcam_calibration.pdf contains a description of the procedures used to calibrate the Stardust NAVCAM images; label is navcam_calibration.lbl.
• sbn_calibration_comments.txt contains comments from the Small Bodies node regarding these calibration procedures; label is sbn_calibration_comments.lbl
• mission_plan.pdf contains the Stardust Mission Plan document; label is mission_plan.lbl.
• m_plan_supa.pdf contains Mission Plan Supplement A; label is m_plan_supa.lbl.
• m_plan_supb.pdf contains Mission Plan Supplement B; label is m_plan_supb.lbl.
• nc_des_a.pdf contains a NAVCAM instrument description document; label is nc_des_a.lbl.
• A log of NAVCAM images taken during flight is presented both as an ASCII comma-separated dump of a spreadsheet file, and as PDF:

In the calrpt/ subdirectory:

• calibrpt.pdf contains the calibration report and all supporting tables and graphs. The tables have been extracted into separate ASCII comma-delimited dump files in the document/calrpt/ subdirectory.
• calibrpt.lbl contains the PDS label for all the .pdf and .asc files in this subdirectory.

In the scdesc/ subdirectory:

• aerogel.pdf contains the descriptive Aerogel brochure produced by JPL
• scdesc.htm is the first page of an HTML tree providing spacecraft description, including diagrams.
• scdesc.lbl contains the PDS label for all files in this subdirectory.

Data Files

The data are divided into two subdirectories, each containing image files in FITS format with detached PDS labels. These files are located in the data/ subdirectory.

Index Files

This directory contains two indices into the data in the index/ directory.
