SDDFMI_0001: Stardust Dust Flux Monitor Instrument Data

This volume contains dust flux monitor instrument (DFMI) data tables covering the period 19 February 1999 through 03 September 1999 (early cruise).

Note that the reviewers of this data set did not consider these data to be of archivable quality. SBN is preserving the bits as submitted, however, and they are available to users as is.

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.htm file. A flat text version of this file is contained in aareadme.txt, with the corresponding PDS label in aareadme.lbl.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved.

These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

• lblinfo.txt provides basic information on PDS label structure, with a data label example.

In the calrpt/ subdirectory:

• dfmical.pdf contains the calibration report and all supporting tables and graphs.
• dfmical.txt contains a flat AScII version of the dfmical.pdf file.
• dfmical.lbl contains the PDS label for both the .pdf and .txt files.

In the scdesc/ subdirectory:

• aerogel.pdf contains the descriptive Aerogel brochure produced by JPL.
• scdesc.htm is the first page of an HTML tree providing spacecraft description, including diagrams.
• scdesc.lbl contains the PDS label for all document files in this subdirectory.

Note that the images referenced in the HTML document actually reside in the separate document/images/ subdirectory. No label was provided for these image files.

Data Files

Two tables of early cruise data (dust events) are provided: one includes data read out at the DFMI "cruise" rate and the other at the "encounter" rate. Each table is provided as a flat, comma-delimited ASCII table and as the same table with an additional column header line (provided for the convenience of spreadsheet users), identified by the extension ".csv". A single label file is used to describe both the table and the CSV forms of the data.

• Cruise data read out at the "cruise" rate (as often as 10 Hz but as but as little as every 20 minutes):

• Test cruise data read out at the "encounter" rate (as often as 10Hz but at least every second):

Index Files

The index/ directory contains the required PDS index into the data files in the data directory, as well as the checksum file.

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab is a CSV table meeting the PDS indexing requirements. (PDS label)
• checksum.tab is flat table of MD5 checksums for each file in the official archive volume except for itself and its PDS label.

Software Files

The software/ directory contains a versions of the NASAview tool for three operating systems. The contents are described in the softinfo.txt file.
