Stardust NAVCAM Early Cruise Image Data |
Status: Safed
This volume contains navigational camera (NAVCAM) images from the early cruise phase of the Stardust mission. It covers the period 07 February 1999 through 29 October 2001. The Stardust project notes that:
This volume contains the results of the early cruise images of the
Stardust Navigation Camera. These images are of no clear scientific or
engineering use. They were acquired to ascertain the state of the camera
during a time of successive contaminations and decontamination actions,
as described in detail below. None are considered useful for calibration
of future scientific images, given the nearly continuous changes in the
state of the camera during this period.
Consequently, the primary goal of this archiving effort is to preserve the bytes and as much documentation as is available, should the data become significant to some unanticipated future effort. The data are available for downloading as is.
An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.htm file. A flat text version of this file is contained in aareadme.txt, with the corresponding PDS label in aareadme.lbl.
Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.
These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.
In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved.
These files are located in the document/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.
In the calrpt/ subdirectory:
In the scdesc/ subdirectory:
Note that the images referenced in the HTML document actually reside in the separate document/images/ subdirectory. No label was provided for these image files.
All image files are located in the data/ subdirectory. Labels are attached to the data.
These images may be viewed using the NASAView package available from PDS Central Node. A version of this software is provided on the volume in the software/ directory, but for the latest version users should download the package from the PDS Central Node web site.
An errata.txt file is provided in the root directory of the volume. Note that some of the errors listed make the labels attached to these image files syntactically invalid. Consequently, there is no guarantee that even PDS software will read them correctly.
This directory contains an index into the data files included on this volume (in the data/ directory).
The software/ directory contains a versions of the NASAview tool for three operating systems. The contents are describes in the softinfo.txt file.
