     This file contains a description of the index tables created for the     
spacecraft data submitted to the International Halley Watch.   For those      
experiments for which a large number of files were archived, a separate table 
was created and placed into a subdirectory designated by the experiment code. 
These include the dust spectra and image experiments, where the former        
has been subdivided into detection "modes" including a test sequence.  When   
appropriate, the image index tables have been broken into convenient          
time sequences near encounter.    In addition, for the case of the processed  
TVS images from KFKI, the index tables are further divided according to       
the process - filtered, sharpened, filtered with aspect correction,           
sharpened with aspect correction, filtered with aspect and range correction,  
sharpened with aspect and range correction, and those images used to          
determine the flatfields.   The index tables carry information about          
the experiment.  To locate data use the file CDSTRUCT which identifies        
the filename (with path), size and starting logical block number (LBN).       
                                                                              
     There are two types of files in each subdirectory, distinguished         
by the extensions on the file names. The filenames themselves identify        
the experiment which was used to produce each index. The types of files

        *.LBL - These are PDS labels describing the data tables.  They already
                contain pointers to the data tables, so no further steps are  
                required to make them accessible to PDS table-processing      
                software.                                                     
                                                                              
                                                                              
        *.IDX - These files contain the actual metadata records from each     
                file.  They are ASCII tables and each line ends with the      
                characters <CR><LF> (ASCII 13 and 10 respectively). All fields
                in the tables are fixed width.
