Overview
========
This volume contains uncompressed, wide-field images of Comet Halley
obtained by the Large-Scale Phenomena Network (LSPN) of the International
Halley Watch (IHW). The Small Bodies Node of the Planetary Data System
extracted compressed digital images (.IMQ) from the LSPN disks, HAL_0001 to
HAL_0018, and uncompressed the data. The uncompressed images are in FITS
format with compliant headers and detached PDS labels. Calibration data,
subsampled browse images, and ephemeris tables are available on the
original LSPN disks.
A total of 1,439 images of Comet Halley are stored on this volume, covering
the time period 1985 September 21 to 1987 April 25. The uncompressed images
have a total volume of 21 Gbytes. The following table describes the date
ranges for the uncompressed images of Halley. The 'First LPSN#' column
lists the first uncompressed FITS file for a date range. The 'Cal LSPN#'
column lists the LSPN number of the first calibration file for a date range.
The '# Images' column gives the number of uncompressed LSPN FITS images on
this volume and the number of calibration images. The 'VOL #' column gives
the IHW data disk number from which the uncompressed images were extracted
and where the calibration images, browse images, and ephemeris tables are
located. For example, '01' refers to the HAL_0001 disk.
