The CALIB directory contains a set of files that are useful for the
calibration of the NEAR MultiSpectral Imager (MSI). The files in the
CALIB directory itself are used in conjunction with the MSI calibration
software, while the files in the MSI_BANDPASS directory are descriptions
of the MSI filter responses.
MSI Bandpass Calibration files:
===============================
The /CALIB/MSIBANDPASS directory contains files describing the
bandpasses of the filters used in conjunction the NEAR Multispectral
Imager. One file is included for each filter, giving the scaled
response as a function of wavelength. This information was provided by
Scott Murchie.
The files are as follows:
BAND0450.TAB - 450 nanometer filter
BAND0550.TAB - 550 nanometer filter
BAND0700.TAB - 700 nanometer filter
BAND0760.TAB - 760 nanometer filter
BAND0900.TAB - 900 nanometer filter
BAND0950.TAB - 950 nanometer filter
BAND1000.TAB - 1000 nanometer filter
BAND1050.TAB - 1050 nanometer filter
MSI Flatfield and Point Spread Function Calibration files:

In order to correct for sensitivity and non-uniformity of the MSI system,
images were acquired before launch of the interior of a spectralon
lined integrating sphere (details given in MURCHIE S., M. ROBINSON, S.E
HAWKINS, III, A. HARCH, P. HELFENSTEIN, P. THOMAS, K. PEACOCK, W. OWEN,
G. HEYLER, P. MURPHY, E.H. DARLINGTON, A. KEENEY, R. GOLD, B. CLARK, N.
IZENBERG, J.F. BELL, III, W. MERLINE, AND J. VEVERKA 1999. Inflight
calibration of the NEAR multispectral imager. Icarus 140, 66-91.)
For the period of the mission when the transparent cover was used there
are two flat fields used. After the cover was removed only one flat
field is used, the files named with FLAT?_31C.FIT were used for both
periods. The * is an integer representing a particular filter
identification number.

In order to correct the blurring of MSI images due to the deposition
of contaminants of the optic during an aborted spacecraft burn system
PSF were derived for each filter (details given in LI, H., M. S.
