     This file contains a description of the index tables created for the     
SL9 spacecraft data submitted to the Small Bodies Node.   For those missions/ 
experiments for which a large number of files were archived, a separate table 
was created and placed into this directory designated by the experiment code. 
The index tables carry information about the scientific parameters for the    
experiment.  To locate any file on the CDROM use CDSTRUCT which identifies    
the filename (with path), and size.  The VOLINDEX file carries information    
about each data entry and ancillary file.                                     
                                                                              
     For the SSI data, the index file IMGINDEX.TAB for the submitted          
data on GO_0016 has been copied to the current volume and edited to           
reflect only the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 data.  The detached label             
has the description modified to reflect that the current CD-ROM               
actually has the same REDR files.   The modified label follows                
current PDS standards.   In addition, on GO_0016, the SL9INDEX.TXT            
file has been converted into an index (SSIINDEX.TAB and *.LBL) with           
appropriate filenames and path.                                               
                                                                              
     For NIMS data, a chronological index for the reflectance data was        
created.  Note that the one calibration file is listed at the end             
of the table as no time was provided.  The EDR files do not have an           
index file as they are separated into individual directories as copied        
from the original volume, GO_1004.                                            
                                                                              
     There are two types of files in each subdirectory, distinguished         
by the extensions on the file names. The filenames themselves identify        
the experiment which was used to produce each index. The types of files

        *.LBL - These are PDS labels describing the data tables.  They already
                contain pointers to the data tables, so no further steps are  
                required to make them accessible to PDS table-processing      
                software.                                                     
                                                                              
                                                                              
        *.TAB - These files contain the actual metadata records from each     
                file.  They are ASCII tables and each line ends with the      
                characters <CR><LF> (ASCII 13 and 10 respectively). All fields
                in the tables are fixed width.
