The UVVis instrument consists of two cameras; a Guide Camera and a Science Camera. Additionally, other components of the UVVis instrument include: a fold mirror, a filter wheel, a fine steering mirror, and various optical elements (three off-axis paraboloids, a dichroic, and baffles). The Guide Camera is an Andor Zyla 5.5 camera. The Science Camera is a Princeton Instruments ProEM+ CCD Camera. The UVVis instrument was designed to meet two goals during the balloon flights. The first goal was to achieve a fine pointing capability. The error signal was found to be 10-20 mas at a cadence of 20 Hz. The corrections from the fine steering mirror were found to be the same angular level at a cadence of 5 Hz. The second goal was to observe celestial targets in four UV filters. Two filters were centered on OH and CN (~310 and ~385 nm) while the other two filters were at nearby continuum wavelengths. The UVVis instrument sits on the proximal optical bench which is one of two optical benches behind the main telescope, while the BIRC sits on the distal optical bench. The main telescope is flight heritage technology and was used in the Stratospheric Terahertz Observatory (STO). The main telescope is an on-axis cassegrain with a diameter of 0.8 m and f/17.5. The main telescope brings the light to a prime focus at the UVVis optical bench. A two-position mirror mounted on the UVVis optical bench determines whether the light stays in the UVVis bench or is allowed to pass through a hole and continue to the IR optical bench.
