Subject: HRI-SIM TV2 Flash report Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 23:15:18 -0400 From: Dennis Wellnitz Hi all, Today (Monday, August 26), we started IR alignment and focus tests at about 10 am MDT, and finished at about 4:30 pm. After spending about an hour on a network problem (the ITOC name server went down, but eventually came back up), we proceeded with a brief run-through of the CCD and IR spectrometer co-alignment and co-focus procedure. The rough results from the run-through are that the co-alignment is very close to perfect, but the focus differs by a few millimeters. We plan to do a more complete and careful version of these procedures on Thursday as we change bench temperature from "warm" (142 K) to "cold" (about 128 K), interleaving the IR and CCD measurements at each focus displacement. Another result from the CCD work today is characterization of the relative locations of the four quadrants of the CCD: we found that the left quadrants of the displayed image had to be interchanged to line up with the right quadrants of the CCD, to make registered images, and to provide image motion consistent with image motion in the IR slit. We will review this again with a different procedure (imaging a target) to make sure all signs were consistently determined for the CCD and also for the IR-FPA. Tomorrow we plan to gather at 9:00 am MDT to plan the days activities, which are expected to be commencement of the calibration procedure at the "warm" (142 K) temperature. Those activities are expected to occupy a total of about two days, Tuesday and Wednesday. After 36 hours to cool (Wednesday evening to Friday morning), we expect to commence the calibration procedure at the "cold" (about 128 K) temperature on Friday morning and finish up with all TV2 calibration late on Saturday, when we will begin warm-up. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions. If you would prefer not to receive these Flash reports on HRI-SIM TV2, please let me know. Dennis
