Subject: HRI/MRI IP TV4 Flash report Date: Wed, 05 Mar 2003 01:51:59 -0500 From: Dennis Wellnitz Hi all, This is the flash report for Tuesday, March 4, 2003, Mardi Gras. The morning was spent in an alignment cube survey. The first three cubes required only a very short time to measure because they could be seen using the PhaseCam interferometer. The fourth cube was not in the field of view of the interferometer, so it had to be tied to the others using a theodolite, which took the rest of the morning and the first part of the afternoon. The results of the survey were very good, showing little change from the survey done at room temperature before the start of this thermal vac. We also had a meeting at 1:00 pm to review what had been done so far and plan the rest of the day's activities. We next set up for the geometric distortion tests of the MRI, moving the Air Force Resolution test target to 16 overlapping positions covering the field of view of the MRI, and taking data at each position in 5 different filters: 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. A filter center and width table for the MRI is appended at the bottom of this report. We then set up the sine wave target at the center of the field of view of the MRI, and took data with varying exposures to get illumination at a large number of values, using filters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Before changing the optical setup in any large way, we then put a red filter between the strobe and the pinhole to reduce the illumination to an unsaturated value for the clear filters and did another set of 16-position Air Force test targets through the two clear filters: filters 1 and 6. We stopped data taking at 9:40 pm, because setting up radiometry this late and taking a full dataset would run at least until 3 or 4 am. People have been working too hard for too long to be able to do that reasonably and safely tonight. So we plan to stop data taking for the night, take a rest, resume at 10 am tomorrow, and work late into the night tomorrow. We plan to continue imaging work with the MRI and HRI during the day tomorrow, and then to set up HRI radiometry work in the late afternoon and take data into the night when ambient light will be low. Some Science Team representatives continued working until 11:30 pm, including spending some time estimating the time for remaining tests and prioritizing them for inclusion in this thermal vac, for presentation at tomorrow's 10 am meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Also please let me know if you would prefer not to be included on this Flash report distribution list, or if there is someone else who should be included on this distribution list.
