Deep Impact I&T Report, Monday, January 28 and Tuesday, January 29, 2003 CML Monday was a day of slow progress. Some difficulties were found in the instrument testing, on both the flyby and Impactor sides. The Impactor camera test setup is having power supply problems and a cooling valve froze yesterday; both are minor issues which are expected to be fixed today. Images of the interior of the Ball 8 chamber from the ITS camera CCD have already been taken, so we have a live imaging system. This morning, Tuesday, a series of warm functional tests will be run. Cold (-20 to -30 C) calibration data should begin to be taken by early afternoon on Wednesday. The vibration test of the Flyby instrument platform showed some worrisome changes from the instrument tests, suggesting that there may be a loose fitting between the camera assemblies and the instrument platform that needs to be found. We just had a meeting to figure out how to do this in the lowest risk, fastest possible way. So today they will do a quick check of the alignment of the instruments on the vibration table, then do a small shake to see if the problem is still there, and if it is, take the assembly back to the clean room and look at the loose connections which most likely are causing the decrease in vibration amplitude seen. We should have more on the issue by mid-afternoon.
