Attached are some comments of the catalog files on volume DS1MIC_0001. Each catalog file is listed with comments on what needed to be changed to allow successful ingestion. On several of the items, I need feedback from you before I can proceed to ingest the files. 1. 19p_borrelly_1_1904_y2.cat File is okay with the exception of being a fixed format file. For ingestion, I deleted the trailing spaces. Catalog files can only be ingested if they are stream format. This is something that you are not required to "fix". It is an ingestion problem, not a PDS-wide "problem". 2. dataset.cat This file was in really bad shape. Lots of thing "wrong" with it. A. The file is in UNIX format. UNIX files do not have the PDS required pair. It is simple for me to convert. Just two mouse clicks within my text editor. B. The DATA_SET_TERSE_DESC value is too long. This is caused by the leading spaces being counted in the byte count. Again, this is an ingestion problem and not your problem. I fixed by deleting the leading spaces in the value field. C. There were many, many lines with double quotes in the DATA_SET_DESC value field. Double quotes within a description value field are not allowed. I went through the file and changed all quotes to apostrophes. D. There were three lines in the DATA_SET_DESC value field that contained an illegal ASCII character. This character was: – I changed it to just a simple "u". Is this correct? E. There were some missing required keywords. These were: 1. START_TIME 2. STOP_TIME 3. ARCHIVE_STATUS 4. DATA_SET_MISSION 5. ABSTRACT_DESC 6. CITATION_DESC 7. CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE I inserted them, but gave then a NULL value. Can you supply a valid value? F. The DATA_SET_TERSE_DESC value was missing the terminating double quote. I just added it so the file would test ingest. 3. deep_space_1.cat Multiple lines were greater than 75 characters. Again, this is not your "problem". I reformatted to allow test ingestion. The TARGET_NAME value was mispelled. Your file had: TARGET_NAME = "19P/BORRELLY (1904 Y2)" it should be: TARGET_NAME = "19P/BORRELLY 1 (1904 Y2)" Easy fix. I also added RECORD_TYPE = STREAM and deleted the trailing spaces. This next "error" on this file I will need your clarification. You have: REFERENCE_KEY_ID = "RAYMANETAL2002" however, this reference is not in the database nor in the reference.cat file on this volume. You will either have to supply the reference so we can ingest it, or delete it from the file. (Note: the file text itself does not reference this reference citation. Perhaps if a hassle, just N/A would suffice.) 4. ds1.cat I just deleted the trailing spaces to conform to RECORD_TYPE = STREAM that is in the file. 5. ds1mic_0001_hsk.cat File is in UNIX format, easily converted. There was a misnamed keyword. Changed DESCRIPTION to RESOURCE_DESC. 6. micas.cat This is another file that needed a bunch of cleanup. There were multiple lines greater than 75 characters in length. Previous comments apply. The INSTRUMENT_TYPE value included an extra, "illegal" ASCII character at the beginning of the value field. This was just the question mark (?). Easily deleted. Three lines had an illegal ASCII character (’). I was unable to determine what should have been in its place, so I just deleted it. If something should go here, let me know. There are some incomplete references in the document. Here is one instance: Additional MICAS instrument information can be found in []. The file shows that a reference should go between the square brackets, but is blank. These should be "fixed" with valid references. Also, deleted trailing line spaces, added RECORD_TYPE = STREAM, and changed REFERENCE_KEY_ID = "" to REFERENCE_KEY_ID = "N/A". 7. personnel.cat File is in UNIX format. Easy conversion fix. LABEL_REVISION_NOTE was missing. Added with a placeholder value. File indicated as RECORD_TYPE = STREAM, but file was FIXED_LENGTH. "Fixed" by deleting the trailing line spaces. The REGISTRATION_DATE value is invalid. The file had UNKNOWN. Changed to UNK. Line 35 was missing the beginning double quote. Larry Soderblom object was missing the ALTERNATE_TELEPHONE_NUMBER. This is a required keyword and if not applicable, then just make the value "N/A". My last question on this file concerns Chris Isbell's listing. The values in this file are different that what is currently in the data dictionary. Which is correct? 8. reference.cat File is in UNIX format. Converted to DOS, added missing LABEL_REVISION_NOTE and RECORD_TYPE keyword/values and deleted trailing spaces. 9. review_dataset.cat File is in UNIX format. Converted. Multiple lines greater than 75 characters. My fix, not your problem. Deleted trailing spaces to conform to existing RECORD_TYPE = STREAM. Many missing required keyword/values. Added with NULL values. Will need applicable values before final ingestion. A. START_TIME B. STOP_TIME C. ARCHIVE_STATUS D. DATA_SET_MISSION E. ABSTRACT_DESC F. CITATION_DESC G. CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE 10. voldesc.cat File okay as submitted, except for deleting the trailing spaces.
