OK, after many hours of pestering people and digging through directories, here is what I think I know about DS1 MICAS data: o In 2003, we reviewed uncalibrated EDR images from the VISCCD channel of the MICAS instrument. Andrew has resolved some of the liens on the data labels. Tony is working on liens involving catalog files. o We did not review EDRs from the APS and SWIR channels of the MICAS instrument. It is not clear why, although we suspect the data may either be of such low quality or so poorly documented that they may not be archivable. o The shape models Tony is currently wrapping up (generated by DLR and USGS) are derived from MICAS data, recovered from .cub files. o We have the calibrated files that were posted for awhile (but are no longer) on the USGS website. They are all in the form of .cub files. I think Andrew made a start on converting some of these QUBEs to images some time ago, but I don't have those data. o There are 5 subdirectories of calibrated data. They appear to contain: 1. GIF Animations and accompanying HTML 2. Radiometrically calibrated VISCCD channel data (19 files) 3. Radiometrically calibrated and deblurred VISCCD channel data (11 files - a subset of #2) 4. Normalized spectra from the SWIR channel (5 data files, a spreadsheet and a .doc file which apparently contains at least a sketch of the processing done) 5. A directory called "topo", which appears to be the source for at least one of the DEM models, though there may be more here Here's where to find things: /n/wirtanen5/projects/ds1mic_0001 This directory contains the data reviewed in 2003. The data files that Andrew edited reside in the data/ subdirectory. The review copy has been deleted. /n/wirtanen5/projects/ds1mic_0002 This directory, currently empty, is for working on the calibrated files. /n/wirtanen5/users/raugh/ds1_micas I have moved all the data and documentation files I collected from the DS1 website here. There are untouched copies of the unedited EDRs and of the calibrated data (under the "derived/" directory). I have write-protected these so nothing gets deleted accidentally. Under here you will also find a "NOTES/" directory, where I'll collect things (like this file) to help track the various work efforts on these data. Here's an action item: *** If you have any files related to any MICAS data activities, move or copy them into the appropriate projects/ area (above). Please also tell me that you have done this so I can keep track of what's going on. Here are the questions still outstanding: 1. Are we going to attempt to archive the uncalibrated APS and SWIR data? 2. Are we going to attempt to prepare some or all of the calibrated data for review in October? 3. Did Andrew really do something with some of the calibrated labels, and if so which labels and what state are they in? 4. If Andrew was working on the data labels for the reviewed (uncalibrated) data and Tony was working on the catalog files, who was working on the rest of the stuff (documents, errata.txt, indexing, etc.)? _____________________________ 27 August 2004, AC Raugh
