COMET2_NUC ========== o Remove last column (rotation periods). o Get the rotation period data from Nalin Samarasinha. Ideally, these should be in this same data set (which should be maintained yearly as an edited collection of published properties). o Comet Machholz is definitely spelled incorrectly at least once. o Correct typos noted by M. Belton (appended below). o Correct typos noted by T. Farnham (appended below). o Make PDS standards corrections as noted by Steve Adams (appended below). ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ Mike Belton's List of Typos --------------------------- 4)files with small problems: In "Properties of Comet Nuclei" - tables 1 and 2 are called "Physical properties of comet nuclei" not "Radii of Comet Nuclei" as you have written - Also you have written "probably" when the reference has "probable" In "Support_archives.cat" -mission start and stop dates seem odd -Label revision code has something about "comet polarimetry" which seems unrelated In "dataset.cat" -in the 'terse'description the data is listed as Sizes, shapes, albedos and colors. But "periods" are at present also included - I don't know what "EAR-C-COMPIL-5-COMET...." means -Is there a problem with the data-set-ID, the Citation.desc, and the Reference-Key-ID all being different. Why not the same? In "albedos.lbl" -under column 2 you say that D = defunct means destroyed. Not so, exhausted or disintegrated would be better. This appears in several of the files:e.g colors.tab,comet.lbl,notes.lbl,shape_size.lbl -when errors are not given shouldn't the relevant column show a .99? In most cases you put 0., which be misinterpreted. - in 22P shouldn't the entry be 0.042 not 0.42 - in 109P shouldn't the reference be Lamy et al (2004) In "colors.lbl" - Under "Description" replace BiV with B-V In "Colors.tab" - Machholtz is spelt incorrectly (twice) In "Comet.lbl" -under column 8 description "following" is incorrectly spelt. -delete column 24? See issue above. In "comet.tab" - The names Sola, Pajdusakova, Vavrova, Vaisala and Cernes are not spelled correctly. -in 19P 2.62 instead of 2.2 -in SW1 14(32.3) is given as 14 -in SW3 entry (1.3) is entered as 0 -in Gehrals 3 you have << instead of < -in 117P something missing in the parentheses -in 1P you chose the wrong entry - what are the "R"'s in the entries for 109P and C/I-A-A? In "Extinct.lbl" - probable not probably - in Object column 9 should read "visual geometric albedo" In "Notes.tab" - the first two entries are incorrect - the format seems odd (at least on my printer) In "Reference.lbl" - change "blenk' to "blank" In "reference_list.tab" - Many typos - e.g. Schleicher, liike,Sciience, rainier, abd,Astrphys, rickman - don't really approve of "private communication" references in an archive In "Shape_and_size.lbl" - don't use "length" and "width'. Use "semi-major axis A", "semi-major axis B", and "semi-major axis C" In "Shape_and_size.tab" - 0.08 instead of 0.09 ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ Tony Farnham's List of Typos ---------------------------- In file COMET.LBL In description for column 4, it says "these are provided only for non-periodic comets." It should read "these are provided only for unnumbered comets." In description for column 12, "following" is misspelled In description for column 13, "radius" is misspelled In description for column 19, "...radius in from a variety of source ..." should be "radius from a variety of sources ..." In description for column 20, "recalculated" is misspelled In NOTES.LBL file In description for column 5, "If not object name..." should be "If an object name..." In ALBEDOS.LBL In PRODUCT_NAME, "ALBEDOS" is misspelled In ALBEDOS.TAB Comet Kopff is listed with an albedo 0.42. Should this be 0.042? In COLORS.LBL In File description, "BiV" should be "B-V" In file EXTINCT.LBL in description of column 1, "...assigned as asteroid number..." should be "... assigned an asteroid number..." ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ Steve Adam's Notes on Standards ------------------------------- 1. root directory A. missing required AAREADME.TXT B. missing ERRATA.TXT this file is optional, but required to explain deviations from standards (if any) C. all files require a PDS label (i.e., dataset.html). prob best to delete this file from the archive. D. voldesc.cat 1. not all catalog files listed in the OBJECT=CATALOG object. 2. VOLUME_ID = "NULL_0000" and VOLUME_SET_ID = "USA_NASA_PDS_NULL_000X" Can we select something else instead of "NULL". You have another volume in this "set" also labeled "NULL_0000". 2. catalog directory A. missing required CATINFO.TXT B. there are two reference.cat files on this volume, one in the catalog directory, the other in the catalog/targets directory. They should be combined. scratch the above. The reference.cat file in the target directory really isn't a reference file. Rename this file to something else, so as to not confuse with a "real" reference.cat file. the "reference.cat" file can be considered a reserved name. A test ingestion failed with this file (in the target directory) indicating that a TARGET_NAME was not supplied. However, you do have one, with the value of "REFERENCE". I suspect that this is a related problem to the above discussion. The TARGET_NAME of REFERENCE will need to be changed to something else. TARGET_TYPE is of StdValueType = STATIC. Value in file is invalid. I cannot get this file to ingest. Will have to debug later. May be problem with ingestion software, or a problem with the file. Will have to investigate later. C. reference.cat 1. reference not in proper format. delete the apostrophies. PDS uses the AGU format. 3. data directory A. notes.lbl/notes.tab 1. Not sure this is a "correct" usage of a table. Label indicates 20 records, but there are really only 8 records. Subsequent lines are continue lines of previous. Can they be placed on a single line? 2. What is start_byte=6, bytes = 1 supposed to be? It is in the file, but not defined. B. colors.lbl/colors.tab 1. What is start_byte=5, bytes=1? In file but not defined. C. *.lbl/*.tab 1. As above (3.A.2. and 3.B.1.), undefined byte in file. D. reference_list.tab 1. Unusual, I haven't seen a reference list in a data format. Shouldn't it be in a REFERENCE.CAT file instead? If left in this format, see 3.A.1. above. 4. index directory A. okay
