DATA_SET_IDs above have been left as V1.0. It is included in future data sets as it may be useful to track the time-varying, or understanding of the, performance of the ALICE instrument. The original DESCRIPTION field follows: The Alice effective area contained in this file is obtained by combining the geometric area of the instrument, the reflectivities of the optics, the grating efficiency and the quantum efficiency of the photocathode material according to the following formula A_eff = A_geo * R**2 * e_grating * QE The SiC reflectivity curve is from Keski-Kuha et al. (Opt. Eng., 36, 157), while the QEs of KBr and CsI are from a paper by Siegmund & Vallerga. This produces an effective area curve that is a good match to that measured in the lab. This curve has been scaled by a factor of 0.6 to match obervations of the stars gamma Gru and rho Leo by IUE and NH, longward of 1200 Angstroms. The effective area in the bare photocathode region is derived from the relative counts in rows 19-25. These rows are dominated by Lyman alpha from the 2x2 box portion of the slit. The 3600s EALICECAL01 observation (during the Jupiter phase) was used."
