Deep Impact 9P/Tempel Encounter - Raw Navigation Images from the Impactor Visible CCD (ITS)

Status: Archived

This data set contains raw comet 9P/Tempel 1 and calibration images acquired by the Deep Impact Impactor Targeting Sensor Visible CCD during the encounter phase of the mission. These observations were used for optical and autonomous navigation (NAV) of the impactor spacecraft as well as for scientific investigations. These data were collected from 6 May to 4 July 2005.

Warning: The INTEGERATION_DURATION keyword in the data labels is incorrectly set to the MINIMUM_EXPOSURE_DURATION. To calculate the correct value for the total integration duration, add the values for the MINIMUM_EXPOSURE_DURATION and COMMANDED_EXPOSURE_DURATION keywords in the data labels. Alternatively, one may add 3.5 ms to the value of the EXPSRDRT keyword in the FITS header to derive the total integration time. PDS-SBN will correct the labels in version 1.1 of this data set.

The entire data set has been gathered into one physical volume (an ISO image) for downloading. It includes includes all catalog, index, and suport files for the data set.

The Deep Impact Documentation volume is available as a separate download file:

In case you're wondering...

An overview of the volume contents is provided in the aareadme.txt file.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ subdirectory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

Documentation Files

The documentation for the Deep Impact mission has been collected into a separate volume. The root of this volume is here. The contents are described in the aareadme file in the root of the documentation volume.

Data Files

The data are grouped by mid-observation date with subdirectories named by sequential day number under the data/2005/ subdirectory.

Index Files

The index/ directory contains the required PDS index into the data files in the data directory, as well as the checksum file.
