New Horizons: Jupiter Encounter Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) Calibrated Data

This data set contains the calibrated data taken by the New Horizons Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) instrument during the Jupiter encounter mission phase. It covers the time period from 1 Jan 2007 to 27 Jun 2007.

Catalog Files

Catalog files contain the overview information and parameters used in loading the PDS central catalog, specifically, or for developing other interfaces to the data outside of PDS. The information they contain, particularly in their descriptive text fields, should be clear, complete, and understandable to a research user who is not necessarily a mission or instrument specialist.

These files are located in the catalog/ directory. The directory contents are described by the catinfo.txt file.

In addition to the small text files located throughout the volume to describe directory contents, some specific documents are provided to assist with understanding the data and processing involved. These files are located in the document/ directory. The directory contents are described by the docinfo.txt file.

• The New Horizons MET2UTC is a table containing the converstion of the Mission Elapsed Time to Universal Coordinated Time. (Table, PDS label).
• The New Horizons SPICE instrument kernel used for computing the geometric information (PDS label is attached).
• The quaternion description defines the quaternion used to rotate from Earth Mean Equator coordinates to the instrument-fixed frame. (ASCII, PDS label).

Calibration Files

The calib/ directory contains the files used to reduce and calibrate the raw data.

• calinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• al_reflectance.tab is a table of aluminum mirror reflectance vs. wavelength (PDS label).
• blue_array_qe.tab is a table of the blue array quantum efficiency (PDS label).
• blue_filter.tab is a table of the blue filter transmittances (PDS label).
• blue_qe_times_filter.tab is a table of the blue QE x transmittances (PDS label).
• bs_reflectance.tab is a table of beam-splitter reflectance vs. wavelength (PDS label).
• ch4_array_qe.tab is a table of the ch4 array quantum efficiency (PDS label).
• ch4_filter.tab is a table of the ch4 filter transmittances (PDS label).
• ch4_qe_times_filter.tab is a table of the ch4 QE x transmittances (PDS label).
• clear_filter.tab is a table of the clear filter transmittances (PDS label).
• nir_array_qe.tab is a table of the nir array quantum efficiency (PDS label).

• mcl is a subdirectory containing the TDI flat field images in FITS format, along with their associated labels.
• mfr is a subdirectory containing the CCD framing image in FITS format, along with their associated labels.
• mp is a subdirectory containing the pan 1 and pan2 flat field images in FITS format, along with their associated labels.

Data Files

The data/ are FITS files with multiple extensions including images and a binary housekeeping table. Each data file has a detached PDS label (*.lbl). Data are grouped into subdirectories according to Mission Elapsed Time (for conversion to UTC, see document nh_met2utc.tab, PDS label).

Index Files

The index/ directory contains the required PDS index of the files in the data directory.

• indxinfo.txt describes the directory contents.
• index.tab is a CSV table that identifies the location of each data file in this data set (PDS label).
• checksum.tab is checksum file that can be used to check for errors during download (PDS label).
