The Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) was a mission with joint execution by the United States (NASA), the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The goal of this mission was to perform unbiased, all sky survey 12, 25, 60 and 100 microns. IRAS detected about 350,000 infrared sources which increased the number of cataloged astronomical sources by nearly 70%, IRAS discoveries included a disk of dust grains around the star Vega and six new comets.
